I’d tried previously to stick my soft plastics in a bag to recycle them but they kept spilling out and it wasn’t very practical or neat. My Wholly Shrinker is a game changer! It’s like a Tardis for a start, I can’t believe how many plastic bags, sweet wrappers, loo roll wrappers, film covers etc that will go into it before it’s full. Once it is full you would imagine it would all ping back into its original shape and overspill the bag…but no!

When I put my plastics in the big bag at Woollies is when I’m most impressed as my bag only takes up a small space and the bag at the supermarket is always overflowing with massive bags of plastics and I just slip mine in a small crevice. It’s easy to use and maybe takes a little bit more time to add it to the shrink wrapper but I can just chuck it in my shopping bag and drop off at supermarket easily. I think if more people had these how much more plastics would be added to the full circle of recycling.

Wow! I wish we’d got one sooner. We had a really big paper bag to keep our soft plastics in, and my husband was taking it to the supermarket to recycle once a fortnight in the car as it was too big to carry but now he’s taking this neat little bag once a fortnight and just pops it in as he’s walking past. The Shrinker is also really small and fits neatly in a corner near our other recycling bins which has freed up some much needed space on our worktop. This is a brilliant device, we are now able to compress a full week’s worth of soft plastic into this container.
Prior to purchasing we tried a large plastic bag under the sink, this became a real nuisance as bags would keep expanding and falling out, and even though we wash all plastic prior to disposal the bags under the sink area did start to smell after a few days.
Following our purchase of a “Wholly Shrink” it was a game changer, so easy to use so much tidier, and so convenient. We had one small mishap, the top retaining ring failed which made compacting impossible however after contacting “Wholly Shrink” we were able to obtain a new ring and since then its been excellent.
We would not be without one now, I just wish our local council (North Somerset) would issue these free to all homes, I am sure over time it would cost effective as it would save on collection journeys/times, as the compaction of a weeks’ worth of soft plastic is about the size of a 2 litre drinks bottle, rather that one or two large carrier bags full of soft plastic.
I would recommend this product to anyone, that needs to store used soft plastic bags for recycling.

I had high hopes for this but am actually quite disappointed. It’s far too small and doesn’t hold as much plastic as I’d hoped. I find that it fills much quicker than we go through bread bags (which are the ideal size to put inside the shrinker) so find I still have a cupboard to plastic while I wait for a bread bag to put in it. Not worth the £30 paid I’m afraid.

I had a cardboard box wedged between door and radiator for my old plastics, and everyone would continue to play soft-plastic-buckaroo until it eventually all popped out the top and we all lost our tempers. Now, we have this wee, unassuming gadget which sits on the radiator neatly, with nothing exploding out of it. Once it’s jam packed (it takes way more than you’d think), it’s dead easy to take apart and empty/rebag. The wee red produce bags from Tesco are perfect if you use Tesco delivery. Anyway, it’s neatened up our kitchen space, is easy to use and definitely makes a positive difference.

This is the most obvious product I’ve needed for my soft plastic recycling and I’m so glad I purchased by Wholly Shrink. It is super simple to use, with clear instructions for set up. It sits on my kitchen bench and I use it all the time to compress my growing pile of soft plastics. It is as simple as lifting the plunger, inserting the soft plastics and inserting the plunger and pushing down to position. Extracting the shrunken plastics is as simple as untwisting the lid, removing the bag and off to the recycling bin! Initially, I was a little disappointed that it didn’t hold as much as I had hoped, but seeing the difference it has made in keeping my laundry tidy from all the plastic bags floating around has made me a total convert.

I really do think this is a great product. Has helped to reduce the waste of soft plastics in our household 💯 because we had an issue of where to store away the stuff. So mush easier now to save small bundles for the collection so thank you! My only suggestion is in the next iteration of it you make the cylinder more grippy with some texture. The number of times we flop the thing out of our hands and wrestle with it is probably the thing I like least about it. Should be easy to incorporate in the moulding process.

It’s actually really good! I don’t usually take a punt on things that pop up on my social media, but I was fed up of having an exploding soft plastics drawer. I’m very pleased with it – it gets used several times a day.

As someone who was very disappointed when RedCycle wrapped up its program, it was disheartening to see how much plastic we were contributing still – despite our efforts. Luckily our council was one of those that participated in the RecycleSmart program. Only trouble was the wait between each pick up. Our collection started to resemble a small tip. Shelly, compression is really important! Sounds like your liner is too loose when you screw the ring lock. Use a wooden spoon to hold the liner in place, then pull out the excess liner and push into the tidy hole. This will help!

I would have loved one that was multicoloured and looked like it was made from different bits of plastic, bit I’m happy with how it works 🙂
